Self Storage Tips |
|
It can be quite intimidating organizing your storage unit for the first time. Here is a list of tips that can help you take full advantage of the self storage unit:
- One of the best things to do is to make a list of all the items you are storing. It is a great to plan ahead and develop a strategy to use all the available space in your unit. It is recommended that you measure the items, so you know how much space they will take up in the unit.
- There are many self storage articles available on the internet to help you with your storage experience. I recommend reading as many articles as possible to increase your knowledge about self storage.
- Make a list of all the packing accessories and self storage supplies needed to store your items.
- There are many items that you can use to pack up your items. If you are packing items in a box or carton it is a necessity to have lots of tape, and bubble wrap to keep the items in the box secure.
- For better accessibility it is best to leave a walkway in the rear of the self storage unit.
- If you can disassemble items such as bed frames and other furniture to maximize the space in the unit.
- Place items that require frequent use near the door or at the front of the unit.
- Fill containers to capacity but do not overfill them. Boxes or cartons that are too full often collapse or tip over in the unit causing a lot of hassle.
- Pack heavy items in smaller boxes. Large boxes with heavy items will be difficult to carry.
- Fragile items should be cushioned by packing and placed towards the top of the unit. It is smart to label any containers with fragile items.
- Label your containers and take home a list of the labeled containers for easy reference of what you are storing.
- Use pallets or boxes that are heavier as a foundation to place other containers.
- Try to take full advantage of the space in your self storage unit. You should store items as high as possible.
- Shelving is a great way to keep your items organized and to take advantage of the storage unit’s space.
- Ask employees for suggestions when organizing your unit. They should know the best strategies for specific storage units.
